It was a positive day for Australia as it added more gold medals to its tally.

The Paris Olympics 2024 in Paris, France have started on a fiery note. All the countries involved, and their respective athletes, leave no stone unturned to win medals. Plenty of medals were up for grabs on Sunday, (July 28) which saw notable events coming to their conclusions.

The Australian swimming contingent brought in four medals. South Korea picked up its pace with five podium finishes including three gold medals. Japan too was not far behind with three medals overall. Six countries secured gold medals on day 2 of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Australia on the top of the medal tally now has collected four golds and two silver medals. Jessica Fox of Australia won gold for her country on day 2 in the Canoe Slalom women’s Kayak single at Paris Olympics 2024. In the women’s 400m freestyle final, Australian Ariarne Titmus successfully defended her Olympic title.

France is on second place with seven medals. The host nation of quadrennial games has won three gold medals and two silver and bronze medals. In cycling mountain bike discipline, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot of France took the gold in women’s cross country. Auriane Mello took the silver in women’s Epee Individual fencing.

Japan is making a comeback as it has now secured six medals including three gold, two silver and one bronze medal. Coco Yoshizawa of Japan secured gold in women’s street skateboarding at Paris Olympics 2024, finishing ahead of compatriot Liz Akama and Brazlian Rayssa Leal.

South Korea is on par with Japan as it has drmatically improved its performance on day 2. South Korea’s Oh Ye Jin won gold in the 10m Air Pistol shooting women’s final, ahead of her fellow compatriot Kim Yeji and Indian Manu Bhaker who settled for a silver and a bronze medal respectively.

South Korea also won gold in Archery as they got the better of China in an intense final, a sport where the country usually dominates. They won gold by securing a 5-4 win over the Chinese athletes in the final. South Korea also secured the bronze in men’s 400m freestyle final through Kim Woo-min.

China is currently placed fifth in the medal tally with six medals. Xie Yu ended the nation’s 16-year gold medal drought in men’s 10m air pistol.

The relay events in swimming saw Australia and United States of America going head to head at Paris Olympics 2024. In the men’s 4x100m relay, USA finished ahead of Australia and Italy. Meanwhile in women’s 4x100m relay, Australia came in first as USA and China came second and third respectively.

In the women’s 400m freestyle final, American Katie Ledecky won the bronze medal. It was Ledecky’s 11th Olympic medal and her first at Paris Olympics 2024.
