USA pips China to finish on top of the medal tally.

The Paris Olympics 2024 had excitement brewing right from the start and was seen till the end of the final event. The event began with a high voltage game in men’s football where Morocco defeated Argentina and the event ended with USA’s women basketball team beating France by a single point. The medal tally was led by China until women’s basketball final as USA ended the games on top.

The final day had started with Sifan Hassan winning gold for Netherland in women’s marathon. But the rest of the day so the top three nations of the medal tally, USA, China and Japan win multiple golds to end their Paris Olympics 2024 on a postive note.

India ended their campaign with one silver and five bronze medals. The nation ranked 71st with the shooting contingent being the most successful as it brought in three medals. Athletics, wrestling and hockey contributed a medal each for India at Paris. There were seven nations which finished the games with a single bronze medal.

The refugee Olympic team finished with a bronze medal as Cindy Ngamba won the team’s first ever Olympic medal. The refugee Olympic team competed for the first time at Rio 2016 Olympics.

Table toppers USA stamped their authority at Paris Olympics 2024 with 40 gold medals, 44 silvers and 42 bronze. With a total of 121, they were the only nation to suprass more than 100 medals. The Athletics contingent was the most successful with 14 gold medals, 11 silvers and 9 bronze. Swimming also brought in 8 gold medals, 13 silvers and 7 bronze.

The women’s basketball team win ensured that their nation topped the medal tally charts. Their win equalled the gold medals with China and beat them with higher silver medals. Jennifer Valente’s gold in women’s omnuim under cycling was a major boost for the team on the final day.

It was heartbreak for China as it was leading the medal tally until the final event of Paris Olympics 2024. They ended up with 40 gold medals, 27 silvers and 24 bronze. Li Wenwen’s gold in women’s 86 kg+ weightlifting gave hope for China to finish on top but could only delay proceedings. Diving continued to be the nation’s strength in the games as it delivered eight golds. Shooting, Weightlifting and Table Tennis contributed to the medal tally with five golds each.

In third place of the final medal tally is Japan with 20 gold medals, 12 silvers and 13 bronze. Japan had a bright start at Paris but lost momentum in between but regained their form at the end. Wrestling single handedly resuced the nation in the games with eight gold medals including two in the final day which helped them reach third place at the games.

Finishing in fourth place is Australia with 18 gold medals, 19 silvers and 16 bronze. The nation saw multiple podium finishes on the final day but unfortunately a gold medal was not in their destiny. Swimmers made a splash at the games with seven gold medals, eight silvers and three bronze.

Hosts nation France fittingly deserve the fifth place finish as their athletes showed the right amount of consistency in the games. They collected 16 gold medals, 26 silvers and 22 bronze. it was heartbreak for them in Basketball events as their men’s and women’s team suffered agonising losses to USA in the finals. Swimming gave the hosts four gold medals as their hero Leon Marchand won all four of them.
