Parul Chaudhary will compete in two events at Paris Olympics 2024.

Despite her humble origins as the daughter of a farmer from the village of Iklauta near Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh, Parul Chaudhary has steadily ascended in her sport.

Parul’s progression was not without its hurdles. Even after her achievements in national-level competitions, she often encountered setbacks at international events.

Parul Chaudhary missed qualifying for both the 2018 Asian Games and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Since 2021, Parul Chaudhary has been under the guidance of Jaiveer Singh, a renowned athletics coach from Haryana and a former international athlete himself.

Singh highlighted in an interview on Parul’s dedication to training that often surpassed that of her peer male athletes which has been instrumental in achieving the results necessary for her qualification for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Parul Choudhary and her journey to Paris Olympics 2024

On 27th August in the Budapest World Athletics Championships 2023, India’s Parul Chaudhary placed 10th in the final of the 3000m steeplechase and secured her berth for the Paris Olympics 2024.

She achieved this with a national record-breaking run of 9:15:31, thereby meeting the Paris 2024 Olympics entry requirement of 9:23.00 in the event.

In Budapest 2023, Parul Chaudhary clocked a personal best of 9:24.29 in the heats and remarkably improved to 9:15.31 in the final. Lalita Babar had previously held the record with a time of 9:19.76 set at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Her performance in 2023 was exceptional as Parul Chaudhary went on to secure the gold in the women’s 5000m event just a day after earning silver in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games.

Career milestones of Parul Choudhary

In addition to this, she made history at the Asian Games by becoming the first athlete to medal in both the women’s steeplechase and 5000m events. She is also the first Indian woman to clinch a gold medal in the Asian Games 5000m event.

In the same season, she secured the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Athletics Championships followed by a silver in the 5000m event.

Along with Avinash Sable, Parul Chaudhary will undergo training at a high-altitude center in Colorado, USA, as part of their preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), under its Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS) funding will cover airfare, boarding, lodging and other expenses for the athletes, their coaches and physiotherapists.
