Ramita Jindal made her Games debut at the Paris Olympics 2024.
India’s Ramita Jindal missed out on a great opportunity to win a historic medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. Competing in the finals of the 10m air rifle women’s individual event, Ramita Jindal created expectations after her impressive performance at the Asian Games last year.
Her start in the finals was equally impressive, scoring 52.4 in her first five shots, putting her in fourth place. However, the second round was a bit erratic, with shots of 10.4 and 10.1 in the first two, followed by 10.7 and 10.6 in the next two.
It was the 10th shot—the last before the elimination stage began—that cost her a lot. A 9.7 shot increased the Indian shooter’s troubles. With the under-10 shot, she dropped out of the top four.
Her expression after the shot said it all as she knew that she had missed an opportunity. She had a quick battle with former world record-holder Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway to stay in the competition and the Indian was up for the task. In the next qualification, it got interesting with Kazakhstan’s Alexandra Le shooting a 9.7 to give a sniff to Ramita.

But, the twin Asian Games medalist couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity as she stumbled with shots of 10.2 twice when the requirement was 10.4.
It was a tough outing, but she has already created history by becoming the first female shooter to qualify for an Olympic finals in a rifle event after 20 years. She is young and hopefully, she will learn from the day to probably become an Olympic champion in the future.
