She becomes the second female to reach shooting finals in ongoing Paris Olympics.

Ramita Jindal put up a spirited performance in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Individual event to make it to the finals. The 20-year-old buried her disappointment in the Mixed Team event where she missed out by just 1.0 point, as she get the job done in the Individual event at Paris Olympics 2024. The storyline is no different from yesterday’s event as the event was a topsy turvy one.

Ramita started with a 10.5 and 10.9 but a series of shots below 10.5 meant that she was reeling at 22nd place. But the twin Asian Games medalist upped her ante to be on the higher side to score 106 / 109 in the second series. But shooting more lower 10s and an occasional higher 10s meant that Ramita was hovering around the qualification mark in shooting.

Just like how she did in the Asian Games, Ramita showed exemplary calmness to hit 10.5+ in the last two series. In the last 16 shots, the 20-year-old scored 11 shots which were 10.5 or above. Her calmness was personified in the fact that she took her time and was the last to complete the firing. She finished fifth place with 631.5 points and will be competing in the finals on Monday.

It was yet another heartbreak for the young Elavenil Valarivan. She was in the top-8 for most point of the competition but a 9.9 in the fourth series was a blunder but she had the luxury of higher 10s from earlier rounds. It went round to the wire as she needed 30.9 points in her last three shots. But the pressure got the youngster as she managed a 30.2 with scores of 10.1, 9.8, and 10.3.

After being in the race throughout the competition, it was devastating to miss out by just 0.7 points. Such is the competition as the record was broken during the qualification. Hyojin Ban of Korea broke the Olympic Record with her score of 634.5, topping the standings in the competition. Jeanette Hegg Duestad held the previous record with a score of 632.9 in Tokyo three years back.
