All the matches their to-be German opponents have played at the Games have been declared null and void.
The men’s doubles Group C match at Paris Olympics 2024 between Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India and their German opponents has been cancelled due to an injury. German player Mark Lamsfuss had to withdraw from the competition because of a knee injury on Monday.
Lamsfuss was set to play alongside Marvin Seidel, but his injury means they will not be participating in any Group C matches scheduled for the next two days. This cancellation affects their upcoming matches against Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, scheduled for July 29, 2024 and Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar of France, scheduled for July 30, 2024.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced, “German men’s doubles player Mark Lamsfuss has withdrawn from the Olympic Games Paris 2024 badminton competition due to a knee injury.” As a result, the BWF has decided that all Group C matches involving the German team will be null and void, in line with the BWF General Competition Regulations, which state that results in a group where one team withdraws are to be scrapped.”

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had opened their campaign with a 21-17, 21-14 victory over the French pair of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar on Saturday. The Indian duo will play their last group match against the Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, on Tuesday. With the German team’s withdrawal, the Indonesians’ previous victory over Lamsfuss and Seidel on Saturday has also been nullified.
The withdrawal of Lamsfuss and Seidel will affect the standings and the progression of other teams in Group C. Teams will have to adjust their strategies and schedules accordingly, as the group stage dynamics have now changed.
