Paris Olympics 2024: Top five USA athletes to watch on Day 8

Ryan Crouser is hoping for a third Olympic crown while Sha’Carri Richardson is looking for her first.
The United States of America currently stands fourth on the medal tally at the end of Day 7 of Paris Olympics 2024, with 43 medals, including 9 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze medals. Heading into Day 8 (August 3) of the quadrennial games, the United States will look to further boost their medal tally.
The athletics events at Paris Olympics 2024 are expected to contribute significantly, with multiple finals on Saturday, including the women’s 100m at midnight, triple jump, men’s shot put, and mixed 4x400m relay events.
Besides this, the Swimming and Gymnastics finals are also slated for August 3, 2024. With this, let’s look at the top USA athletes to watch out for on Day 8 at Paris Olympics 2024.

USA athletes to watch on Day 8 of Paris Olympics 2024 (August 3)
Ryan Crouser (Athletics – men’s shot put)
Ryan Crouser secured his spot in the men’s shot-put finals by surpassing the automatic qualification mark of 21.35 with just one attempt. He advanced with a throw of 21.49m on his first attempt in Group A. He will aim for his third successive shot-put title at Paris Olympics 2024, having won gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Rio Olympics 2016 respectively.
He will be in action on Saturday in a bid for a third gold medal in shot put, whose finals are scheduled at 11:05 PM (IST).
Kate Douglass (Swimming – women’s 200m individual medley)
Kate Douglass will be eyeing her third medal at Paris Olympics 2024, having won gold in women’s 200m breaststroke and a silver being a member of the 4x100m freestyle relay.
After qualifying for the finals of the women’s 200m individual medley in a time of 2:08.59 during the semis, she will hope to increase her tally with a medal in the discipline, whose final is on Saturday. Notably, she is also a two-time World Champion in the event.

Noah Lyles (Athletics – men’s 100m)
Noah Lyles, who achieved a sprint treble at the World Athletics Championships 2023, will begin his Olympic campaign on August 3, 2024. He will compete in the heats of the men’s 100m where a top three finish will earn him a place in the event’s semifinals of Paris Olympics 2024.
As the reigning world champion and having set a new personal best of 9.81s in 2024, he is a strong contender for a medal in the event. Notably, the semifinals and finals of the event are scheduled for August 4, 2024.
Sha’Carri Richardson (Athletics – women’s 100m)
Sha’Carri Richardson will be in action in the women’s 100m semifinals at Paris Olympics 2024. She topped Heat 1, clocking a time of 10.94s, to qualify for the semifinals. It is worth noting that both the semis and finals of the women’s 100m are scheduled on August 3.
Richardson will be heading as a gold medal favourite in the event as she has clocked the world’s fastest time this year in the 100m, clocking 10.71s at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. If she wins, she will become the first USA athlete since Gail Devers in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 to win the event.
Simone Biles (Gymnastics – vault final)
Simone Biles, who became the most decorated USA gymnast after her remarkable performances at the Paris Olympics 2024, will look to add more medals to her collection as she will feature in the finals of the women’s vault event. She has already bagged two gold medals in the women’s all-around team and individual events at the quadrennial games.
She will enter the women’s vault finals as a strong gold medal contender on Saturday after performing exceptionally in the vault qualifications by scoring 15.800 points to qualify herself in the finals. In the individual all-around finals, her routine in the vault apparatus fetched her 15.766 points, contributing to her gold-medal victory.
So far, Biles has won 6 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals in her Olympic career. Notably, she is the most accomplished gymnast in the history of the World Championships, with 23 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
