The Paris Olympics 2024 has seen young athletes take over the podium at few events. The age factor in sporting events has constantly been challenged by athletes. At the Olympics, few youngsters have had the ability to win medals by beating opponents twice their age.
It has been no different at Paris Olympics 2024 as teenagers have won multiple medals. The 17 day quadrennial event saw different world records and Olympic records tumble. Let’s have a look at the youngest athletes who were able to secure medal winning positions at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Hezly Rivera- Gold in women’s artistic team all-around
Hezly Rivera was the youngest athlete in the 592 members of the USA contingent at Paris Olympics 2024. At 16 years 1 month and 16 days, Rivera won gold in the women’s artistic team all-around under gymnastics. The youngest member of the USA contingent returned home with a top podium finish.
Kokona Hiraki- Silver in women’s park skateboarding
Kokoa Hiraki at the age of 15 years, 11 months and 11 days won her second Olympic medal at Paris Olympics 2024 in women’s skateboarding. She had earlier won silver in the event at Tokyo Olympics 2020 and followed it up with another silver medal at Paris. She has already become a legend in Japan for winning multiple Olympic medals.
Liz Akama- Silver in women’s street skateboarding
Akama was 15 years, 6 months and 20 days old when she won the silver medal in women’s street skateboarding. The Japanese athlete was competing at the Olympics for the first time and made sure to impress her rivals at Paris.
Coco Yoshizawa- Gold in women’s street skateboarding
At 14 years, 10 months and 6 days, Coco Yoshizawa finished on top of the podium in women’s street skateboarding at Paris Olympics 2024. She finished with 272.5 points and delivered the best result for Japan.
Arisa Trew- Gold in women’s park skateboarding
Arisa Trew of Australia was 14 years, 2 months and 25 days old when she won gold in women’s park skateboarding at Paris. She scored 93.18 points and became the first woman to land a 720 and a 900 in an official competition.
The skateboarding event has been breaking many Olympic records since its debut at Tokyo. Although it will not be part of the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, it can hope to be part of the upcoming editions.
