Sports-wise breakdown of India’s Paris Olympics contingent
Shooting and athletics will send most athletes for India.
The Paris Olympics are slated to begin on July 26 and end on August 11. 32 sports in all have been selected for this year’s Olympics, which will feature 329 events. India has been on an improving trend in the Olympics in the last decade, with the number of competitors and medals on the ascend.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw India present their largest contingent with 124 athletes in the quadrennial event. With seven medals, which included the first-ever individual gold in track events, it was their best show. India will be fielding 117 athletes this year in Paris.
Paris will see the Indian contingent with most athletes with medal opportunities. Neeraj Chopra will be the primary man with all the limelight, defending his crown in the javelin throw event. Veteran paddler Sharath Kamal will be the flag-bearer in the opening ceremony and will look to end the long wait for a medal in table tennis.
