A total of 26 athletes will be representing Malaysia at Paris Olympics 2024.

Malaysia will mark its 17th participation in the Summer Olympics at the upcoming event in Paris from July 26 to August 11. The nation has been a consistent participant in every Summer Olympics since its debut in 1956, with the exception of the 1980 Games in Moscow due to the American-led boycott. Malaysia made its Winter Olympics debut only recently, in 2018, and is yet to win a medal in the Winter Games.

Malaysia’s Olympic tally stands at 13, including 8 silver and 5 bronze medals. All 13 have come in the Summer Olympics, with 9 in badminton and 2 each in diving and cycling. They are yet to win a gold medal, making them the country with the highest number of medals without a gold.

The Sidek brothers, Razif Sidek and Jalani Sidek, were the first Malaysians to win an Olympic medal, back in the 1992 Summer Olympics. Lee Chong Wei has won the most number of medals for Malaysia, with three silver medals in badminton.

Malaysia’s 2024 Olympic journey started with turmoil as their Olympic kit came under heavy criticism. According to the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s Facebook post, the latest design by Yonex Sunrise Malaysia is a black and gold themed attire, combined with elements of tiger stripes to reflect Malaysia’s relentless and ferocious pursuit of the elusive gold medal at the Olympics.

But the fans of the game weren’t impressed at all, labeling the kits as “embarrassing” and “cheap-looking,” following which the nation’s top officials agreed to redesign the kit.

Malaysia’s flag bearers at the Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony will be Bertrand Rhodict Lises, the 2023 Asian Games bronze medallist, and Nur Shazrin Mohd Latif, Malaysia’s first Asian Games gold medallist.
