The rescheduled badminton men’s doubles draw for Paris Olympics 2024 will take place on Monday (July 15) at 1:30 pm IST (4pm Malaysia time, +8 GMT) the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced on Sunday. The draw, which will reveal the groups for the men’s doubles teams, was initially scheduled to take place on July 12 (Friday).
However, BWF postponed it hours before the draw citing a ruling by the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS).

The CAS directed BWF to advise the IOC to add French men’s doubles pair Lucas Corvée and Ronan Labar in the draw. The IOC followed BWF’s advice, and thus Corvée/Labar were added as second French men’s doubles pair at the Paris Olympics.
So, the men’s doubles division will have 17 pairs in the draw instead of the original 16. As a result, one group will have five pairs in it instead of four, and some adjustments will have to be made in the draw.
Key Points:
- Corvée/Labar will take their place in the men’s doubles draw as a fully qualified pair like all other pairs.
- One of the four groups will now have five pairs drawn.
- The group with five pairs will be drawn randomly between Groups A, B, C, and D.
- As both French men’s doubles pairs are unseeded and cannot be in the same group, the highest ranked pair among them (Popov/Popov) will be drawn first and can go into any group.
- The lower ranked French pair (Corvée/Labar) will then be drawn randomly into one of the three remaining groups.
The revised regulations, approved by the BWF Council and accepted by the IOC, state that the draw will be held with due caution and fairness. Thus, the first pair to be placed is the better-ranked French pair Popov/Popov into any group; then the remaining group and the last pair to be randomly selected into one.

It is also noteworthy to mention that, since they are all unseeded, the two French pairs will not be to play on the same group.
This ruling applies to 174 athletes from 48 NOCs and includes one athlete from the IOC Refugee Olympic Team qualified to Paris 2024.
