Paris Paralympics 2024: Who are India's medal contenders today September 1 (Day 4)?
Double Olympic gold medallist, Avani Lekhara, will be in action on day 4.
India’s medal continued to soar on the third day of the Paris Paralympics 2024 as Rubina Francis clinched India’s third bronze medal. It was India’s fourth medal in shooting as fifth overall as Francis secured bronze in P2 Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event.
The para shooter successfully qualified for the finals, finishing among the top eight competitors with a score of 556. Despite trailing for the first 14 shots in the final round, Francis made a strong comeback. She ultimately finished with a score of 231.1, earning her the bronze medal.
Disappointments came later in the day as Sheetal Devi crashed out in the para archery women’s individual compound open round of 16 while Sarita made a quarter-final exit. Parveen Kumar also failed to make it to the podium after finishing eighth in men’s javelin throw F57 competition.

India’s medal contenders on Day 4 (September 1) of Paris Paralympics 2024
Rongali Ravi – Men’s Shot Put – 3:12 PM
Rongali Ravi, a man of short stature but has done a great deal in the international arena. He will be looking to get a medal in the Paris Paralympics in the Men’s Shotput F40.
Having started his career in Para Badminton and Javelin Throw, the Vishakapatnam-born athlete found his mojo in the shot put event. With the weight of the nation, the Indian would want to throw the iron ball as far as possible to get an Olympic medal.
Preethi Pal – Women’s 200m T35 – 11:27 PM
Preethi Pal created history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the track event of a Paralympics when she clinched bronze in the 100m T35 event. She will have another opportunity to be on the podium in the finals of the 200m T35 event. The 24-year-old had won bronze in the World Championships in 200m this year and would want to repeat the feat.
Sreeharsha Devaraddi Ramakrishna – Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone Event- 03:00 PM
Age is just a number and Sreeharsha Devaraddi Ramakrishna is a classic example of it. Standing as a 41-year-old, the Para shooter will be shooting in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone event. A decade earlier, the Bengaluru-man was working for an Insurance company.
An accident in 2013 meant that he had to change his career and to the delight of Sreeharsha his new career has more rewards. If he could get a medal on Sunday, then his name could be better insured for decades to go.
Avani Lekhara and Sidhartha Babu- Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone Event SH1- 1:00 PM
The double-Paralympic gold medalist Avani Lekhara will have another shot at history as she will be shooting in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone event. The 22-year-old will be aiming for a fourth Paralympic medal and with her calm demeanor she could very well achieve the feat. India will have another chance to have two podium finishes in the same event with Siddhartha Babu also in the reckoning.
Nishad Kumar and Ram Pal – Men’s High Jump T47- 10:40 PM
The Tokyo Silver medalist Nishad Kumar will be in action on Sunday to aim for another medal in the Paris Paralympics. The 24-year-old High-Jumper has achieved greatness and continues to breach heights of achievements.
He already has a silver in the World Championships earlier this year and he would like to add a gold in Paris.
Ram Pal will be another Indian in the fray for the event. The 35-year-old had won Silver in the Asian Para Games in 2018. It could be his last Paralympics and a medal to finish will be a perfect end to his career.
