India grabbed four medals on day 2 of Paris Paralympics 2024.

India celebrated a successful second day at the Paris Paralympics 2024, securing four medals across different events.

Avani Lekhara led the charge, defending her gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 final. Lekhara not only repeated her Tokyo 2020 success but also set a new Games record with a score of 249.7.

In the same event, Mona Agarwal added to India’s tally by claiming the bronze medal with a total score of 228.7. This marked Agarwal’s first Paralympic medal in her debut appearance at the Games.

India also found success in men’s para shooting, with Manish Narwal securing a silver medal in the P1 – men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event. Narwal, who had previously medalled in Tokyo, continued his strong Paralympic performance.

India’s success extended beyond para shooting, as Preethi Pal made history in para athletics. Pal won bronze in the women’s 100m T35 final with a time of 14.21 seconds, becoming the first Indian para sprinter to medal at the Paralympics.

What to expect from Indian contingent on Day 3, August 30?

Six medals will be up for grabs across four sports: para shooting, para archery, para athletics, and para cycling. India’s best chances for podium finishes lie in para archery, where Sheetal Devi, known as the “armless archer,” and her teammate Sarita are considered strong contenders.

In para shooting, Swaroop Unhalkar and Rubina Francis will aim to improve on their near-miss performances from Tokyo, where they finished just outside medal contention. Para cyclists Jyoti Gaderiya and Arshad Shaik will also compete for medals in their respective events.

The day’s schedule includes a mix of qualification rounds and finals across various sports. Para badminton action continues, adding to the diversity of India’s Paralympic campaign.

Key events to watch include the Women’s Individual Compound Open archery matches, where both Sarita and Sheetal Devi will compete, and the Men’s Javelin F57 final in para athletics featuring Parveen Kumar.
