Kapil Parmar’s entry into blind Judo
Parmar was born in Shivor, Madhya Pradesh on June 23rd, 2000. He always had a passion for Judo. During his childhood, he was playing in the field when he came into contact with a water pump, resulting in an electric shock. The current was so severe that Parmar fell unconscious and was in a coma for six months.
Even after such a huge accident, Parmar continued playing the sport. His coaches, Bhagwan Das and Manoj guided him to blind judo. The Indian athlete soon started securing podium finishes.
Parmar won gold at the Commonwealth Championships in 2019. In 2023, he recorded three podium finishes. He won silver at the Asian Para Games 2022, gold in IBSA Judo Grand Prix Alexandria and bronze in IBSA World Games.
In 2024, Parmar won during the IBSA Judo Grand Prix Antalya and IBSA Judo Grand Prix Tbilisi. His Paralympic bronze medal was his third podium finish in 2024.
Parmar currently trains at the Indian Blind and Para Judo Academy in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His win will now inspire the younger generation of Judokas in India as they will aspire to win medals for the nation at the highest level.
