China becomes first nation to breach double digit mark in gold medals at Paris Paralympics 2024.

The second day of Paris Paralympics 2024 saw four nations breach the double-digit mark as the rivalries grew intense. Records and milestones kept tumbling as athletes were determined more than ever to win medals for their nation. With nine days to go fans can expect to see multiple Paralympics and world records being broken at Paris.

The day began with Erica Castano of Colombia winning gold in women’s F55 Discus throw. Two-time defending champion Dong Feixia of China had to settle for silver as Rosa Maria secured her second consecutive bronze medal in the event.

Meanwhile, India had a breakthrough at the Paris Paralympics 2024 with four medals. Avani Lekhara struck gold in women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 and Mona Agarwal clinched bronze in the event. The nation also won its first track medal at the Paralympics through Preethi Pal in women’s T35 100m as she won bronze in the event.

The fourth medal of the day was recorded by Manish Narwal. He finished second in the men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1.

Paris Paralympics updated medal tally after 30th August

China is on the top of the medal tally leaderboard after day two at Paris Paralympics 2024. The Asian powerhouse has won 12 golds, nine silvers and four bronze. The women’s T35 100m saw Xia Zhou win her third consecutive gold in the event as Guo Qianqian claimed silver. Yang Hong won gold in men’s 200m individual medley SM6 under swimming. 

The country’s 4×50 mixed freestyle relay team won gold ahead of the USA and Brazil. China won a whopping 20 medals on day 2 at Paris.

In second place of the medal tally is Great Britain with six golds, six silvers and three bronze. Jaco van Gass won gold in men’s 3,000m pursuit track cycling C3 as compatriot Fin Graham ended up second. Few minutes later, Lizzi Gordan took gold in women’s 1,000m pursuit track cycling C3. Tully Kearney collected her second gold of the games, this time in women’s S5 freestyle.

Brazil has entered the podium of the medal tally at Paris Paralympics 2024. The nation has collected five golds, one silver and six bronze. Julio Cesar won the first gold in men’s T11 5000m as Ricardo Gomes recorded the second one in men’s T37 100m. Petrucio Ferreira won his third consecutive gold in men’s T37 100m.

Coming in at fourth place is Netherlands with four golds, one silver and one bronze. Liesette Bruinsma claimed gold in women’s S11 400m freestyle. Chantalle Zijderveld held a two second lead to win gold in women’s SB9 100m breaststroke.

Italy could not repeat their opening day’s feat as it is placed fifth in the medal tally. Italian athletes have won three golds, two silvers and eight bronze. Stefano Raimondo was the lone gold medal winner for his nation. He edged out his rivals to finish first in men’s SB9 breaststroke. Monica Boggioni secured bronze in women’s S5 100m freestyle.
