Paris Paralympics 2024: Updated India schedule for today Day 9 (September 6)

India will contest in at least five medal events on Day 9 of Paris Paralympics 2024.
India will aim to keep building on its success at the Paris Paralympics 2024 and achieve its target to returning with at least 30 medals from Paris. At the end of Day 7, India had 24 medals in its tally and were placed 13th on the overall standings with five golds, nine silver and 10 bronze medals. They recorded the nation’s best-ever day in the Paralympic/Olympic history on September 2 when the contingent won a whopping eight medals, including two gold.
On Day 9 of Paris Paralympics 2024, Praveen Kumar, will be one of the medal contenders for India. The Tokyo Silver medalist Praveen Kumar will look to convert his silver to gold medal when he competes in the men’s high jump T64 final. The 2003-born para-athlete, who finished a close second at Tokyo, will also have an opportunity to redeem himself after finishing fourth at the World Championships earlier this year.
Another chance for a medal will come in men’s shot put F57 event. Having finished fourth and fifth respectively in the World Championships, Hokato Hotozhe Sema and Soman Rana will look to do well. If they manage to throw anywhere close their respective personal best, India will be assured of two more medals.
Meanwhile, Simran Sharma, who has also qualified for the women’s 100m T12 final, will compete in the women’s 200m T12 event. The current world champion will aim to reach the final in 200m T12 event and will have to win two races (Round 1 and semifinals) to qualify for the medal round. Simran is a visually impaired athlete and will run alongside her guide Ajay.
Para Canoe events are also set to start on Friday (September 6) and Indian eyes will be on Prachi Yadav who finished eighth in Tokyo and will look to improve her position. World’s silver medalist Pooja Ojha will also start her campaign in canoeing. Elsewhere, in para-athletics, Asian Para Games Champion Dilip Gavit will be in action in men’s 400m.
