Tokyo Olympics Day 16 Preview: Aditi, Neeraj look to claim medals

Day 16 at the Tokyo Olympics will once again witness several high-profile Indian athletes in action. On Saturday, several Indian medal hopefuls will be seen at Tokyo 2020. Neeraj Chopra is all set to end India's long wait for an Olympic medal in athletics. On the other hand, ace wrestler Bajrang Punia will aim to bag another wrestling medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics.
Elsewhere, golfer Aditi Ashok will also be seen in action at Tokyo Olympics on day 16. Here is a preview of all the Indian action on Day 16 at the Tokyo Olympics.
Golf: Women’s Individual Stroke Play Round 4
Aditi Ashok is one of the finest female golfers that the country has ever produced. The 23-year-old has won the Ladies European Tour, Women’s Indian Open, Qatar Ladies Open and several other prestigious competitions.
Ashok has emerged as a surprise medal contender for India. She finished the second round in the T2 position. The Indian golfer will be aiming to keep the dream run going on the final day of the women's individual stroke play event. Can she clinch a first-ever medal in golf for the country? Her compatriot Diksha Dagar will also be seen at this event.
The decisive day of golfing action will begin at 3:00 AM IST.
Men’s Wrestling: Freestyle 65kg Bronze Medal Match
Bajrang Punia is one of India’s brightest medal prospects at the Tokyo Olympics. Punia is competing in the men’s freestyle 65kg category in his first-ever Olympics campaign in Tokyo.
Punia has made rapid strides in recent years. He has won gold medals at the 2018 Asian Games as well as in two Asian Championships. Earlier in 2021, he had claimed the silver medal in the Asian Wrestling Championships at Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The 27-year-old will now be aiming to clinch India's second medal in wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics. He will play for a bronze medal on Saturday after losing his semifinal bout against Haji Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
The event will begin at 3:15 PM IST.
Athletics: Men’s Javelin Throw Final
Neeraj Chopra is one of the brightest young athletes to emerge from India in recent years. Chopra was training in Europe and participated in events in Lisbon, Karlstad and Kuortane. He delivered gold medal-winning performances in Lisbon and Karlstad. At the Kourtane Games in Finland, he came up against some of the best athletes in the world.
German Johannes Vetter came up with a throw of 93.59m to win the event. The Indian achieved a distance of 86.79m to clinch a bronze medal. The 23-year-old delivered a fine performance in the qualifying round as well. Chopra topped the standings with an 86.65m throw in his very first attempt. The javelin thrower now looks like a genuine medal contender at the Tokyo Olympics. A total of 12 participants will compete in the final. Can he deliver when it matters the most?
The final of the men's javelin throw event will begin at 4:30 PM IST.
