Tokyo Olympics Day 4 Preview: Badminton & Table Tennis in focus for India

Many star Indian athletes will be in action.

Tokyo Olympics Day 4 will witness several high-profile Indian athletes in action. The Indian rowing team who grabbed the headlines on Sunday after their historic performance in Tokyo. The duo of Arjun Jat and Arvind Singh qualified for the semi-finals of Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls by finishing third in the repechage race. On the other hand, badminton star P.V. Sindhu began her campaign on a winning note. She brushed aside Israeli Ksenia Polikarpova in her opening match.

On Monday, several Indian medal hopefuls will begin their Tokyo 2020 journey. Bhavani Devi, Ashish Kumar, the Indian men's archery team, the Indian women's hockey team and many others will be in action.

Fencing: Women’s Sabre Individual (Medal Event)

The day 4 action for the Indian contingent will begin with Bhavani Devi. It will be a proud moment in Indian sporting history when she will take part in the women's sabre individual event. The 27-year-old is the first-ever Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympic Games. She has been tipped to do big things in Tokyo and will be going for glory on Monday morning. The event will take place at the Makuhari Messe Hall.

It is scheduled to begin at 5:30 AM IST.

Archery: Men’s Team (Medal Event) - India Vs Kazakhstan

A slew of exciting fixtures on Day 4 of the Tokyo Olympics

The attention will soon turn towards a decisive day of men's team archery action. The Indian trio of Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai will take on Kazakhstan in the Round of 16 to begin their campaign. The match will begin at 6:00 AM IST.

Shooting: Men's Skeet (Medal Event)

The Indian duo of Angad Veer Singh Bajwa and Mairaj Ahmed Khan will take part in this event (Subject to qualification). The event will begin at 6:30 AM IST.

Tennis Men's Singles: Sumit Nagal Vs Daniil Medvedev

Vishnu Saravanan will continue his Olympics voyage in the waters of Tokyo. The event will resume at 8:35 AM IST.

Badminton Men’s Doubles: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty Vs Marcus Gideon & Kevin Sukamuljo

Badminton pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had staged a surprise victory in their group stage match. They defeated the much-fancied Chinese Taipei duo of Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin 21-16, 16-21, 27-25.

The Indians will be buzzing with confidence when they face Indonesians Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo in their second Group A contest.

The match is slated to begin at 9:10 AM IST.

Sailing: Women's One Person Dinghy

Nethra Kumanan will yet again take to the waters of Tokyo. The event will resume at 11:05 AM IST.

Table Tennis Men’s Singles: Sharath Kamal Vs Tiago Apolonia

From one racket sport to another, the focus will shift towards table tennis. Veteran Indian table tennis star Sharath Kamal will lock horns with Portugal's Tiago Apolonia in the second round.

The matches will begin at 6:30 AM IST

Table Tennis Women’s Singles – Sutirtha Mukherjee Vs Yu Fu

Another Indian table tennis player in action will be Sutirtha Mukherjee. She knocked out Sweden's Linda Bergstroem in her previous round. Mukherjee will face the challenge of Chinese-born Portuguese player Yu Fu in the second round.

The match is slated to begin at 8:30 AM IST.

Table Tennis Women’s Singles – Manika Batra Vs Sofia Polcanova

Ace table tennis star Manika Batra will lock horns with Austria's Sofia Polcanova in the women's singles third round.

The matches will begin at 1 PM IST

Boxing Men’s Middleweight: Ashish Kumar Vs Erbieke Tuoheta

There are high hopes from Indian boxer Ashish Kumar in his maiden Olympics. The 27-year-old qualified for the quadrennial event, after reaching the semi-finals of the 2020 Asia & Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament in Jordan.

Kumar will look to get past China's Erbieke Tuoheta in the Round of 32 clash. The bout will begin at 3:06 PM IST.

Swimming: Men's 200m butterfly

Sajan Prakash will enter his first Olympics

Sajan Prakash will aim to rewrite the wrongs of Rio 2016 at Tokyo 2020. The heat round will begin at 3:46 PM IST.

Women's Hockey: India Vs Germany

The day's action for the Indian contingent will be rounded off by the Indian women's hockey team. The Rani Rampal-led side had suffered a 5-1 defeat against World No. 1 Netherlands in their opening match. However, it doesn't get any easier for the Indian girls. In their second Pool A fixture, they will take on World No. 3 Germany.

The match will begin at 5:45 PM IST.
