Popular playback singer Mohit Chauhan has composed and performed the song.
Outgoing Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju revealed the Indian contingent's anthem for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics from his official handle on July 8. The song is titled "Lakshya tera samne hain".
IOA president Narinder Batra, Kiren Rijiju and other eminent personalities were present at the launch event of the song's teaser earlier in June. The song has been composed and sung by popular Bollywood singer Mohit Chauhan while the lyrics are penned by his wife Prarthna Gahilote.
“It is the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji that the entire nation must come together to support and motivate Indian athletes going to Tokyo Olympics. The launch of the official Theme Song today is a step in that direction. The high energy song composed and sung by Mohit Chauhan encapsulates the spirit of every athlete's dream to bring glory for the country at the highest podium," Kiren Rijijy said during the launch of the anthem in June.
IOA President Narinder Batra said, “With the launch of the anthem, I want all our athletes to know, this is not only an inspirational song. It is the resonation of 1.4 billion prayers behind you and I strongly believe that you will give your best and bring glory to our nation”.
Why is the song unique?
The Indian contingent's Tokyo Olympics anthem is one of its kind. Unlike, several theme songs of the past, the official video of the song does not feature any Bollywood celebrities or cricketers. Instead, it showcases the true heroes of the Olympics, the Indian athletes. It is fitting in many ways, as they are the ones who will represent the country in the global event.
The video features Tokyo Olympics medal hopefuls Manu Bhaker, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Atanu Das, Bajrang Punia, Amit Panghal, Vinesh Phogat, Indian men's and women's hockey teams and others. It also showcases Indian legends of the past such as Abhinav Bindra, Leander Paes, Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Vijay Kumar.
The song also has a fine-tuned track, which will surely motivate the Indian athletes to produce their best performances on the grandest stage.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished Tokyo-bound athletes with his 'Cheer4India' message. In doing so, he has asked people to support the Indian contingent at the upcoming Olympics.
The country is hopeful of having the most successful Olympics campaign in the upcoming Tokyo Games. Many eminent singers such as AR Rahman, Ananya Birla, Sukhwinder Singh and Salim-Suleiman have also released other tracks to inspire the Indian athletes.
A record 119 Indian athletes have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. The quadrennial event is set to begin on July 23.
