With anticipation building for the Paris Olympics 2024, here is a sneak peek at some of the standout Olympic uniforms unveiled thus far.
#10 Slovenia
The Slovenian Olympic team for Paris 2024 will be dressed in a sophisticated dark blue and grey combination, complemented by the timeless charm of a French beret. The apparel collection merges Parisian chic with the Slovenian Olympic spirit and was designed by Sandi Murovec.
#9 Japan
Team Japan, designed by ASICS focuses on two block shades of red, “Japan red” and “sunrise red”, the latter said to express the warmth of the Paris morning sky. By including the use of recycled materials and renewable energy, the company claims to have reduced gas emissions of podium jackets and track pants by approximately 34% compared to the previous Games.
#8 Spain
Designed in collaboration with Spanish sportswear brand Joma, the male athletes will be dressed in a pair of cream-coloured trousers and a button-up shirt underneath, while female athletes will receive the same button-up shirt and trade the trousers for a sunray-pleated skirt that runs past the knees in intermingling shades of red, yellow, orange, and white.
Naturally, all apparel is made using sustainable fabrics such as recycled polyester and organic cotton.
#7 USA
Ralph Lauren, inspired by the East Coast for the opening ceremony designed a single-breasted navy blazer trimmed with a white and red border in the colours of the American flag, complete with a single Polo horse representing the label and another patch for the Olympic team’s insignia. This is paired with washed denim jeans and a striped shirt underneath.
#6 Great Britain
According to Adidas, the manufacturer of Team GB’s kit, the typeface on the kit was inspired by British athletes in 1924, and – more incredulously – “a design element featuring tactile graphics so when athletes run their hands over it, they can feel the passion rising from the typeface”
An especially beautiful motif created from the collaboration is a fresh logo made by combining flowers that represent the four nations that make up the United Kingdom: the English rose for England, the thistle for Scotland, the daffodil for Wales, and the shamrock for Ireland.
#5 France
The French athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics will be sporting a stylish kit designed by Stéphane Ashpool, the creative mind behind the streetwear brand Pigalle. This ’90s-inspired uniform celebrates the colors of the French flag and features a uniquely Berluti white shirt paired with a midnight-blue tuxedo jacket adorned with a burnished lapel in the French flag’s colours.
#4 India
The Team India kit, designed by Aaquib Wani, is a masterpiece that goes beyond mere athleticwear. Drawing inspiration from India’s diverse landscapes, from the towering Himalayas to the sprawling deserts and everything in between, the design incorporates elements of the country’s terrain, water bodies, and seasons.
#3 Canada
The Vancouver-based company while creating a collection for the Canadian Olympic team said the key to the design was tapping into the country’s culture and iconic images from the maple leaf to orcas. The print design used in the closing ceremony outfit was done in collaboration with First Nation artist Mason Mashon and inspired by the aurora borealis.
#2 Thailand
The Olympic kit designed for Team Thailand is made from recycled plastic bottles to match the sustainability motto. The manufacturer, Grand Sport said the jerseys were made under the “Be Our Spirit” theme with patterns inspired by the techniques used by the Ban Chiang community in Udon Thani’s Nong Han district. It said the design aims to promote Ban Chiang, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural and historical significance in 1992.
#1 South Korea
The North Face-designed jacket starts with a rich, deep blue before graduating down into a stark white at the hem. Said to be inspired by the traditional Korean art of sumukhwa, or ink-and-wash painting, these are paired with a set of black pants and a contrasting red belt.
Athletes will also receive a separate all-white jacket, and what appears to be a v-neck sweater, along with white pants. Upwards of 16 items from the collection are made from recycled materials and come with enhanced cooling, water-repelling and lightweight features.
