Novak Djokovic equaled Roger Federer’s record of five World Sportsman of the Year Award.

The Laureus World Sports Awards 2024 recently concluded with Novak Djokovic winning the World Sportsman of the Year Award for a record fifth time. Meanwhile, Spanish football star Aitana Bonmatí was named World Sportswoman of the Year.

The awards were introduced in 1999 by Laureus Sport. Since then, the accolade ceremony has been held annually, including in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Former golfer Tiger Wood won the World Sportsman of the Year Award in the initial two years. The World Sportsman category has been heavily dominated over the years by the tennis Big Three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic.

The Big Three have collectively won 12 awards in the World Sportsman Category, while all other sports combined have garnered 13 accolades. In the World Sportswoman of the Year category, former American tennis player Serena Williams has been nominated five times, winning four.
