Simone Biles (Gymnastics)

Simone Biles, widely recognized as the greatest gymnast of all time, has been honored for her record-breaking 2024 season, which saw her become the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history, surpassing former competitor Shannon Miller.

Returning to the Paris Olympics after experiencing the ‘twisties’ in Tokyo, which forced her to withdraw from multiple events, Biles redeemed herself by winning three gold medals, including in the women’s team all-around, individual all-around, and vault, along with a silver in the floor exercise.

Biles, a three-time winner of the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award, is once again a frontrunner to win the honour. If she accomplishes the feat, she will tie tennis icon Serena Williams for the most wins in the award’s history.

Aitana Bonmati (Football)

After winning the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2024, Aitana Bonmati is nominated for the award once again and has a good chance of winning for the second time. She earned this honour after another stellar year, where she played a key role in FC Barcelona‘s success, helping them win both the Champions League and Liga F titles.

In addition, she was named the women’s Athlete of the Year at the Best FIFA Football Awards 2024, where the 27-year-old shared the stage with Vinicius Junior, who received the honor in the men’s category.

Sifan Hassan (Athletics)

Sifan Hassan achieved an incredible feat in 2024, something many thought was nearly impossible. Despite the tight schedule of the middle- and long-distance events, she collected three Olympic medals in just a week, including gold in the women’s marathon and bronze in both the 5000m and 10000m.

For the accomplishment, the two-time world champion received a well-deserved honor from the global governing body by winning the World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year Award in 2024.

Her other notable accomplishments from the year included winning her fifth Diamond League title and capturing another top finish at the Athlos event, founded by Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian.
