Monsoon Pickleball Championship 2.0: Jay DeVilliers star attraction in India's biggest pickleball tournament

Pickleball has gained massive popularity in India in recent years.

Global Sports roped in former PPA World No. #2, Jay DeVilliers amongst other international stars for the Monsoon Pickleball Championship 2.0. Several other international stars, including Quang Duong, Thaddea Lock, Megan Fudge, Ryler DeHeart to name a few headlined the $100,000 event, cementing its place as one of the biggest pickleball championships in Asia.

The Monsoon Pickleball Championship 2.0 was held from the 20th of August 2024 till the 25th of August 2024 in Mumbai. This was the second edition of the highly successful Monsoon Pickleball Championship and was expected to be bigger than the flagship edition in both talent and participation. A 159% rise in the popularity of Pickleball over the last five years can be highly credited to Global Sports and is on an upward trajectory to double up for the next five years as well.

Over 800 participants competed in a total of 47 categories including former World No. #2 on the PPA Tour, Jay DeVilliers. Jocelyn “Jay” Devilliers, often referred as the Flying Frenchman, has shot to the top of the sport in all three divisions.

He has proven himself to be one of the most fiery and exciting players to watch and is one of the most popular professional pickleball players on tour and brought flair and talent to the Monsoon Pickleball Championship 2.0. Other international pickleball stars namely Meghan Fudge, Ryler Dheart, Rob Nunnery and Thaddea Lock also featured at this championship.

The Championship offered a total of $100,000 (close to INR 1 crore) prize money that was up for grabs for all participants in the 47 categories ranging from Open PRO, 19+ intermediate, 30+ Open, 40+ Open, 50+ Open, 18+ Open, 60+ Open, Split Age 35+.

Earlier in the year, Global Sports signed a historic partnership with the PPA Tour and the MLP to elevate pickleball in India to international standards. This partnership will kick off from January 2025 and will include the Indian Open and the next Monsoon Pickleball Championship.
