Sumit Antil has shattered the world record on several occasions.

Sumit Antil, the 26-year-old para-athlete from India, has become a household name in the world of Paralympic sports. His incredible journey from a devastating accident to becoming a world-record-breaking javelin thrower is nothing short of inspirational. Sumit is a two-time Paralympic champion, among many other accolades that he holds.

At the Paris Paralympics 2024, he shattered the Paralympic record twice to successfully defend his gold medal in men’s javelin F64 category. Three years earlier, he had smashed his own World Record thrice to win his first Paralympic gold.

Aside from winning back-to-back Paralympic gold medals, Sumit also holds the distinction of being crowned the World Champion in consecutive editions (2023-2024). He also added an Asian Para Games gold to his list of achievements in the Hangzhou edition.

5. Indian Open National Para Athletics Championships 2021 (68.62 meters)

Shortly after his gold medal performance at the Tokyo Paralympics, Antil continued to push his limits. At the Indian Open National Para Athletics Championships in 2021, he broke his own world record with a throw of 68.62 meters.

4. Paris Paralympics 2024 (69.11 meters)

Sumit Antil set a new Paralympic record with a throw of 69.11 meters, surpassing his own previous mark of 68.55 meters. This put him in the lead. Antil improved his performance further with a throw of 70.59 meters in his second attempt, setting yet another record.

3. Paris Paralympics 2024 (70.59 meters)

Antil successfully defended his Paralympic title at the Paris Games. In a display of sheer dominance, he broke the Paralympic record three times in a single competition. His best throw of 70.59 meters came on his second attempt, securing him the gold medal and setting a new Paralympic record.

This achievement made Antil the first Indian male para-athlete to defend his title in the Paralympics, joining shooter Avani Lekhara as the only Indians to accomplish this feat.

2. World Para Athletics Championships 2022 (70.83 meters)

At the 2022 World Para Athletics Championships, Indian athlete Sumit Antil set a remarkable world record in the men’s javelin throw F64 category with a distance of 70.83 meters. This achievement took place during the championships held in June 2022.

1. Asian Para Games 2022 (73.29 meters)

Antil’s most impressive throw to date came at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China. Competing in the men’s javelin throw F64 event, he hurled the javelin an astounding 73.29 meters.

This throw not only won him the gold medal but also shattered his own world record of 70.83 meters, which he had set earlier that year at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris.
