Simran Sharma is now a two-time para world champion.
India’s para-athletics sensation, Simran Sharma, scripted history by winning the nation’s first-ever gold medal in women’s T12 event at the ongoing World Para Athletics Championships 2025 in New Delhi.
The 25-year-old visually impaired sprinter clocked 11.95 seconds, which also marked her personal best, to top the podium in the event. While this is her maiden gold in the women’s 100m T12 event, Simran is also the reigning champion in women’s 200m in the same category.
Yanfen Liang of China secured silver with 12.11s, while Spain’s Nagore Folgado Garcia claimed bronze with 12.11s.
Trained by husband Umar Saifi—who is also her guide-runner in the event, Simran had shown impressive progression throughout the competition.
She topped her heat with a personal best of 12.13s, and in the semi-final, she further improved to 12.08s before clinching gold in the final with yet another personal best.
This medal is more than just a win. It is India’s first-ever gold in the women’s 100m T12 at the Worlds, and Simran’s second world title, after her 200m victory in Kobe last year.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Simran had endured heartbreak in her favourite event, finishing fourth in the 100m T12, just outside the podium.
Yet in one of the most thrilling display of comebacks, the Ghaziabad born star stormed back in the 200m T12 final to win bronze with a personal best of 24.75 seconds.

Given the spectacular run over the course of her young para-career, Simran Sharma was honoured with the Arjuna Award in January 2025 by the government of India.
And her campaign in New Delhi isn’t over yet, Simran will next compete in the Women’s 200m T12 Round 1 (Heat 4) on October 4 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
