A major development in the wrestling world has led to the shocking death of a referee at the hands of a wrestler. The 36-year-old wrestler, El Hijo de Fishman, was arrested in Hidalgo, Mexico, after he hit a 75-year-old referee with a Package Piledriver that led to his death. El Hijo had reportedly squared off against Mascara Sagrada for El Patron Espectaculous at a wrestling show in Mineral de la Reforma, Hidalgo, on Wednesday, October 7.

During the match, El Hijo delivered a piledriver to the match official, Gerardo German Pineda (aka El Buho). After the move, the referee did not get up, and the match had to be stopped. According to reports, when the medics arrived at the scene, El Buho had no vital signs.
According to reports, Fishman Jr. was in the main event against Mascara Sagrada for El Patron Espectaculous on early Wednesday morning in Mineral de la Reforma, Hidalgo, when he delivered a double underhook piledriver to referee Gerardo German Pineda (aka El Buho). Pineda didn’t get up, and the match was stopped. When paramedics arrived, Pineda reportedly had no vital signs.

Afterwards, police arrested El Hijo at the show’s venue. He is reportedly likely to be charged with manslaughter and could face an imprisonment sentence of 5 to 15 years. The verdict on El Hijo will be passed in the next 48 hours. After the unfortunate incident, the wrestling promotion released the following statement:
“TO THE FANS, MEDIA, MEMBERS OF THE GUILD, AND GENERAL PUBLIC: Given the regrettable events that occurred during the early hours of this Wednesday, October 7, in Mineral de la Reforma, Hidalgo, during a Lucha Libre event in which independent wrestler Hijo de Fishman and referee Gerardo Germán Pineda, “El Búho,” participated, who unfortunately lost his life.”
The statement further added that they had arranged for legal assistance for El Hijo. Moreover, they are also maintaining contact with the late Gerardo Germán Pineda, “El Búho,” and with their legal representatives. As the situation continues to develop, we will have to wait and see what will happen next.
