The TNA World Champion is set to battle Trick Williams!
In a recent conversation with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, TNA World Champion Joe Hendry provided an update regarding his contract with the Nashville-based promotion.
Hendry is set to defend the TNA World Championship against Trick Williams on the 2025 edition of NXT Battleground, which is set to take place on May 25 at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. The two stars recently signed the contract for the clash on the May 13 episode of NXT.
Hendry’s contract comments have come to light in reports linking him with a future move to WWE. The rising star has already taken part in the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble match and had a recent battle against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41.
The speculation was fueled further when WWE CCO Triple H, during the WrestleMania 41 Night Two post-show press conference, revealed that he had told Hendry he would be returning for more WrestleManias in the future.
Speaking with Van Vliet, the TNA World Champion confirmed that he is in his contract year with TNA Wrestling, while discussing Triple H’s comments.
“It’s hard for me to think about it because so many unprecedented things have happened in my life, I’m just like ‘Man, what have I done to deserve all this you know?’ But yeah that was an incredible moment.
“I really do hope there are WrestleMania moments and you know, who knows what’s going to happen next. I’m in my contract year right now, it’s a very exciting time, and I’m just doing my best to give my best to the performance, give the audience everything I can give and to enjoy it.”

Joe Hendry follows through on John Cena’s advice
During the conversation, Hendry also revealed the conversation he had with the 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena after the main event of WrestleMania 41. He also disclosed the advice that he received after his Royal Rumble appearance in February.
“Yes. We’d had conversations. He gave me advice at the Rumble, and as he said on Pat McAfee, I did my very best to implement that advice. He said that he feels I’m going to be a major player in this industry. Praise doesn’t come higher.”
Hendry also highlighted Cena’s selflessness, noting that despite winning his 17th World title, making history, and cementing his legacy as the G.O.A.T., Cena chose to offer him advice rather than focus on his own victory.
“So he came up to me, and there’s two camera crews. They’re filming this interaction. I’m like, I can’t believe the timing that this is happening. He’s just won the championship. I say, ‘John, congrats.’
“He didn’t even want to talk about the fact that he just became the greatest. He wanted to give me advice, that’s who John is, right? He just said to me, ‘I told you exactly what you needed to do at the Rumble. You’ve taken it on board. You’ve done it. You had a good performance at the Rumble. You were brilliant tonight.’ Then John walks off.
“I hope they release this footage one day, I turned to the camera and I go, can a day get any better than this?”
