India finish second with total haul of 17 medals in ISSF Junior World Championships
India's medal tally includes 6 Gold, 6 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals.
India delivered an exceptional performance in the ISSF Junior World Championship which concluded in South Korea recently finishing second in the overall rankings, behind China. The talented Indian shooting contingent secured a total of 17 medals, including 6 Gold, 6 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals, surpassing heavyweights like the USA and France.
The athletes from the acclaimed Gun For Glory Shooting academy made a sizeable contribution to the Indian tally securing a total of 8 medals including a haul of 2 Gold, 4 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals.
The rising stars of GFG proved their mettle in various events, making their mark on the international stage. Amongst them were Gautami Bhanot and Abhinav Shaw (just signed up for GFG), who opened the medal tally for India bagging the 10 M Air Rifle Mixed Team gold. The 10m Air Rifle Men's team, comprising Dhanush Srikanth, Abhinav Shaw, and Paarth Mane, displayed exemplary teamwork and bagged the Gold medal, surpassing formidable opponents from China and Republic of Korea. Special mention must be made of Dhanush who overcame a hearing impairment to outshine his rivals.
The 10m Air Rifle Women's Team event saw a stellar performance from Gautami Bhanot, Swati Chowdhury, and Sonam Maskar, who secured a Silver medal for India, finishing ahead of Norway. Adding to the glory, Abhinav Choudhary partnered with Sainyam to secure the Bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event, outclassing South Korea in a thrilling contest. In the 10m Air Pistol Men's team event, Amit Sharma and Abhinav Choudhary displayed their prowess and earned a Silver medal, proving their mettle on the international stage.
In the individual events, Maddineni Uma Mahesh won the Bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Men's event, showcasing his talent among tough competitors from France and China.
These impressive performances are a testament to Gun For Glory's commitment to nurturing and producing world-class shooting talent. With 11 academies across 8 cities in India, GFG has become a force to reckon with in the country's shooting sports.
Gun For Glory founded by former Olympic medalist Padmashri Gagan Narang and National Rifle Association of India's Hon. Secretary General, Pawan Singh, GFG aims to promote shooting as a sport and provide athletes with international-standard training at no cost.
Project Leap, a collaboration between Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation and Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ), has been instrumental in identifying and nurturing India's top upcoming shooting talents. Many of the exceptional athletes representing India at the ISSF Junior World Championship are students or alumni of Project Leap, receiving rigorous training and support to excel on the global stage.
With a total of 11 athletes from Gun For Glory participating in the championship, their combined efforts have contributed significantly to India's overall medal tally, further strengthening GFG's position at the forefront of the shooting sport in India.
