ISSF World Championships 2023: Sift Kaur Samra earns sixth Paris Olympic quota place for India

Adarsh Singh finished Day 1 of 25m Air Pistol as joint-best shooter.
Sift Kaur Samra won India an Olympic quota in the Women’s 50m 3 Position Air Rifle event at the ongoing ISSF World Championships 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan. She finished fifth in the qualification round to secure a berth in the finals of the event and thus qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024.
She started the kneeling round with a paltry score of 192 out of the possible 200. However, Sift turned around her performance in the prone and standing rounds with scores of 100 and 99, and 99 and 99, respectively. She, thus, finished her six rounds, with a total score of 589 out of the possible 600.
Sift finished as the fifth-highest shooter in the qualification rounds and secured an automatic quota for the mega-event with three of the rest seven qualified shooters already securing their quota place before the ISSF World Championships 2023. In the finals, Sift could only finish in the fifth position in the final standings with a total score of 429.1 points in the finals.
Ashi Chouksey was the second-best-placed Indian in the finals with 29th-placed finish and a score of 582 points. Manini Kaushik finished 40th with a score of 580 points. Thus, the Indian team finished with 1789 points in the fifth position in the 50m 3 Position women’s team event.

Elsewhere in ISSF World Championships 2023
In the 25m Air Pistol men’s event after stage 1, Adarsh Singh finished as the joint-best shooter of the day with a score of 295 out of the possible 300. Anish, placed seventh in the standings, was also in the queue for a place in the finals of the event. Vijayveer Sidhu had a disappointing third round in the Stage 1 and thus, could only manage 287 points to end the day in the 40th position.
