He won India’s first Olympic quota place in pistol event.

Asian Games 2023 medalist Sarabjot Singh continued his supreme form at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championship 2023 by clinching bronze in men’s 10m Air Pistol. By the virtue of finishing on the podium the youngster also went on to secure Paris Olympics 2024 quota. This is also India’s first Olympic quota in pistol category with the rest seven assured in Rifle and Shot Gun events.

The shooter from Punjab started his campaign with a qualification score of 581. He finished joint eighth and progressed through to the final recording more inner X. In the final, Sarabjot registered 221.1 and was behind two Chinese shooters – Zhang Yifan and Liu Jinyao – who won gold and silver medals respectively.

The Chinese shooters had already bagged the maximum available quotas offered. So, it was up to Korea and few other countries alongside India who were fighting for the quota.

Another Indian in the fray Esha Singh, who was one of the most successful shooters at the recently concluded Asian Games with four medals, couldn’t carry forward the momentum to Changwon, finishing outside top 8.

Alongside Esha, other notable shooters including Palak and Rhythm Snagwan failed to go past the qualification stage and missed out on earning a Paris Olympic quota. Youth Olympian Saurabh Chaudhary failed to impress as he finished 35th by scoring 569.

The men’s and women’s skeet events in shotgun category got underway with top shooters including Angadvir Singh and Gurjoat Singh taking part.
