Paris Olympics 2024 selection trials: Manu Bhaker breaks world record

Olympic Shooter Manu Bhaker’s stellar performance won’t be considered as it was a domestic event
Shooter Manu Bhaker exhibited her accuracy and prowess with the gun as she amassed a score of 47/50 in the women’s 25-meter pistol qualification event.
The Indian Olympian set a new world record by a massive margin of six points; however, her performance won’t be counted as she was competing at domestic trials. Nevertheless, Manu Bhaker’s scores in the series were 4,4,5,5,5,5,4,5,5 and 5 respectively. After Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan secured second place with an impressive score of 39.
In the men’s event, Anish Bhanwala topped the charts in the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol Olympics Selection Trials (OST) at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range with 33 points. Vijayveer Sidhu accumulated a total of 27 hits to finish second, while Adarsh Singh took the third spot with 23 hits. After the top three, Bhavesh Shekhawat finished fourth with 18, while Ankur Goel was the first to exit with 10 hits.

Over the last decade, shooting has become one of India’s strongest sports. At the 2022 Asian Games, which took place in Hangzhou, China, the Indian contingent secured seven gold, nine silver, and six gold medals across all shooting events.
Moreover, in 2008, shooting legend Abhinav Bindra was the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold medal at the sporting megafestival. He reached the peak at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 10-metre air rifle event. Hence, the performance of Indian shooters will play a major role in the subcontinent’s overall performance at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
