Both paddlers recently won WTT Feeder Series in Beirut.
In a remarkable week for Indian table tennis, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Sreeja Akula have made significant leaps in the ITTF World Rankings, following their victories at the WTT Feeder Series Beirut. Sathiyan, who has previously reached as high as 24th in the rankings, soared 43 places to sit at 60th, thanks to his victory in Beirut, which added 125 points to his tally.
Sreeja Akula, on the other hand, achieved a career-high ranking of 40 after her second WTT singles title win.
Despite a slight drop, veteran Sharath Kamal remains the top-ranked Indian, holding firm at 35th. The rankings also see Manav Thakkar and Harmeet Desai within the top 100, with Thakkar climbing 11 spots to 63rd after reaching the men’s doubles final, and Desai slipping two places to 67th.
The women’s contingent is equally impressive, with Manika Batra retaining her 38th position and Archana Kamath making a significant jump of 13 places to 99th.
As the Table Tennis Federation of India looks ahead to the Paris Olympics, the focus now turns to the selection of two singles entries for both the men’s and women’s singles events. The decision, due by May 16, will be based on the world rankings at that time.
