Sreeja Akula, Sathiyan make progress in latest Table Tennis rankings; Manika Batra drops further down

India’s top women’s singles player Sreeja Akula moves to 42nd spot in World Table Tennis rankings.
Sreeja Akula jumped four spots while Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has made a climb by three positions in the latest table tennis rankings, published on Tuesday (August 26). Elsewhere in doubles rankings, women’s doubles pair Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade climbed 12 positions to be ranked 33rd.
Meanwhile, Manika Batra who is currently ranked second in India, slipped two spots down in the world table tennis rankings, moving from 53rd to 55th in women’s singles.
India’s top-ranked women’s singles paddler, Akula, who defeated Batra 3-2 at the recently concluded WTT Europe Smash Round of 64 matches climbed four places in the world rankings, reaching 42nd position.
Another Indian, Yashaswini Ghorpade, saw a massive rise after recently qualifying for the main draw at the Europe Smash in Malmo, Sweden, climbing six places to reach 72nd in the world. In India, Ghorpade is now ranked third.
Ghorpade had enjoyed a strong run in the qualifiers in Sweden, defeating Serbia’s Izabela Lupulesku 7‑11, 11‑8, 11‑8, 11‑6 in the final round. However, her campaign ended in the Round of 64, where she lost 3‑0 to China’s Wang Yidi, the world No. 5.

She also participated in women’s doubles, paired with Diya Chitale, who climbed four spots in the world rankings to reach 86th. The Indian duo progressed to the Round of 16 before being eliminated.
However, the top-ranked Indian pair received a 12-place boost in the women’s doubles rankings, now moving up to 33rd place.
On the other hand, India’s No. 2 in men’s singles, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who won the men’s singles title at the WTT Feeder Vientiane in Laos a few days back, has moved up three places in the world rankings to 68th, from 71st.
India’s third-ranked player, Manush Shah, also gained two spots, climbing to 71st place. Meanwhile, Manav Thakkar is currently ranked 43rd in the world.
Manav Thakkar retained his position as the top-ranked men’s singles paddler from India. He is follow by Sathiyan (68th) and Manush Shah (71st). Harmeet Desai, at 81st position, is the only other Indian paddler inside the top 100 in men’s singles.
The rankings are slightly better in women’s singles where five Indian paddlers sit within the top 100 rankings. Diya Chitale at 87th is the most recent entrant. She is joined by Ayhika Mukherjee (82nd), Yashaswini Ghorpade (72nd), Manika Batra (55th) and Sreeja Akula (42nd).
In doubles, India have five in MD, four in WD and seven pairs in mixed doubles within the top 100 rankings.
