Manika Batra advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics table tennis women’s singles event. She achieved this by defeating France’s Prithika Pavade in the round of 32.
Batra, who is ranked 28th in the world, beat the higher-ranked Pavade. Batra won all four games with scores of 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, and 11-7.
The first game was closely contested, with both players tied at 8-8 before Batra took the lead. She then comfortably won the second game and quickly built a 10-4 lead in the third.
Earlier in the competition, Batra had defeated Anna Hursey of Great Britain, ranked 103rd in the world, with a score of 4-1 to reach the round of 32.

Another Indian player, Sreeja Akula, is also competing in the tournament. Akula, who is making her Olympic debut, will play against Zeng Jian of Singapore in the round of 32 on Monday. She previously defeated Christina Kallberg of Sweden in the round of 64.
In the men’s singles event, India’s campaign has ended with Sharath Kamal and Harmeet Desai being eliminated in the round of 16 on Sunday.
India will also participate in the team competitions at Paris 2024. The men’s team, which includes Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, and Manav Thakkar, will face a tough challenge against China, who have won the event four times before. The women’s team, consisting of Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath, will play against Romania in their first match.
