Sathiyan/Manika will look to add the mixed doubles quota for team India.

India created history as they qualified for the men’s and women’s team events for the first time in Olympic history. However, the team qualification only guarantees the singles qualification, not the mixed doubles qualification. The qualification for mixed doubles is different. As of now, six players have qualified for the Paris Olympics in mixed doubles.

These quotas were the host quotas, 1 continental quota (2 for Pan America). However, China has declined the mixed double quota from the Asian Games and hence the quota is reallocated to the World Rankings.

The Table Tennis World Mixed Doubles Qualifiers will be held in Havirov, Czech Republic from 11 April to 12 April 2024. A total of 26 pairs from different countries will participate in the tournament to fight for the four available quotas. From an Indian point of view, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra will fight for the quota.

Format

The tournament is divided in two stages. Each players will have two opportunities to qualify for the Paris Olympics. The stage is further divided into two knockout stages — KO 1, KO 2 for the first stage and KO 3 and KO 4 for the second stage. The winner of KO 1 and KO 2 will qualify for the Olympics and won’t compete in the stage 2. Similar case for KO 3 and KO 4, the winner of both KO 3 and KO 4 will qualify for the Olympics. The matches will be best of seven games.
