Goa Challengers are the defending champion of UTT.

The Ultimate Table Tennis 2024 (UTT) league is set to kickstart its fifth season, with defending champions Goa Challengers and newcomer Jaipur Patriots kicking things off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. This year, the league has expanded to eight teams, up from six last season, with a total of 23 ties scheduled.

Fans can look forward to seeing some of the world’s top players in action, including World No. #10 Bernadette Szocs, World No. #16 Nina Mittelham. They will be joined by top Indian stars like Achanta Sharath Kamal (WR 38) and Manika Batra (WR 25), as well as promising talents such as Yashaswini Ghorpade, Diya Chitale, and Jeet Chandra.

The league has introduced a new format, with teams divided into two groups of four for the league stage. Each team will play five ties, and the top four teams will progress to the knockout stage. The semifinals and final will take place on September 5-7.

What is the new format

The addition of two new teams has led to a change in the competition format. The teams will be divided into two groups of four, with each team playing five matches – three against the teams in their group and two against teams from the other group. The top four teams will advance to the knockout stage.

The semi-finals will feature the top-ranked team against the fourth-ranked team, and the second-ranked team against the third-ranked team. Each tie will comprise two men’s singles, two women’s singles, and one mixed doubles match.
