The Serbian is barred from entering the country due to his unvaccinated status.
Indian Wells Organizers have confirmed that the world's top-ranked tennis player, Novak Djokovic, will not participate in the ATP/WTA Indian Wells Masters tournament next week. This is due to the fact that the Serb has been barred from entering the country.
Organizers of the Indian Wells Masters event have confirmed that Novak Djokovic, the world's number one tennis player, will not be participating in the tournament next week as he has been barred from entering the United States due to his unvaccinated status against Covid-19.
No Special Permission
Despite his efforts to obtain special permission to enter the country, the Serbian player will miss the Indian Wells ATP 1000 event and is also expected to miss the prestigious tournament in Miami unless US authorities change their stance on unvaccinated international travellers.
Djokovic's vaccination status has caused him to miss other tournaments in the past, including the 2022 Australian Open and last year's US Open due to travel restrictions. He will be replaced in the tournament by Nikoloz Basilashvili, according to a brief statement.
The US Tennis Association and US Open organizers have expressed their support for Djokovic's request to enter the country, but the policy remains in effect until at least mid-April.
