The main draw action will commence on April 3rd, with a few first-round matches. Held in Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina, the event is played on outdoor clay courts and is part of the WTA 500 series at the Family Circle Tennis Centre complex.

Indian players have had a limited presence at the WTA Charleston Open, with just a handful of players making it to the main draw over the years. Sania Mirza, the most successful Indian woman tennis player, reached the quarterfinals of the doubles event in 2007 and the second round in singles in 2008.
