The 2023 edition of the Monte Carlo Masters tournament will begin on 8 April 2023 onwards. It is one of the nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments that offer a thousand ranking points, a level below the Grand Slams. It takes place on a clay court and a certain southpaw has dominated the tournament in recent years due to this fact.

5. Stefanos Tsitsipas - 2
Stefanos Tsitsipas has won the Monte Carlo Masters twice. He won the 2021 edition and the 2022 edition. He enters the 2023 edition as the defending champion with an aim of securing a hat-trick of wins in the singles category.
Novak Djokovic, Juan Carlo Ferrero, Gustavo Kuerten, Sergi Buruguera, Ivan Lendl, Mats Wilander, and Guillermo Vilas have also won the tournament two times in the past. As Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic enter the latter stages of their careers, predicting the winner becomes more complex with every year.
4. Ilie Năstase - 3
Ilie Nastase won the Monte Carlo Masters a total of three times. He won all three editions successively in the years 1971, 1972 and 1973. One of his famous wins was during the 1973 editions where he beat the legendary Bjorn Borg in straight sets by a 6–4, 6–1, 6–2 scoreline.
The Romanian tennis player is a former World No.1 who also won the French Open and the US Open in the singles category.
3. Thomas Muster - 3
Thomas Muster won the Monte Carlo Masters three times as well. The former World No.1 tennis player from Austria won the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in the years 1992, 1995 and 1996.
An interesting fact about Thomas Muster is that he is the first player from Austria to ever win a Grand Slam title after he won the French Open in 1995.
2. Bjorn Borg - 3
Bjorn Borg also won the prestigious Monte Carlo Masters tournament three times. The legendary tennis player from Sweden is regarded as one of the finest of all time. He won it in 1977, 1979, and 1980. Interestingly, he won all three of his finals in straight sets.
The former World No.1 tennis player was the first to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles in the Open Era. He won five consecutive Wimbledon titles and won the French Open six times.
1. Rafael Nadal - 11
Rafael Nadal holds the record for winning the Monte Carlo Masters tournament the most number of times in the singles category. The legendary Spaniard has won this ATP Masters 1000 tournament a whopping 11 times. He also holds the record for making the most finals in this tournament - 12.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner won the Monte Carlo Masters eight times consecutively from 2005 to 2012. He has won 73 of his 79 matches at the tournament across 17 editions. The Spaniard tennis legend last won the tournament in 2018 and has not even made the final since then.
