Wimbledon announce record 11 percent increase in prize money for 2023 Grand Slam

The men's and women's singles champions and runners-up prize money will see an increase to the level they were in 2019.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club announced on Wednesday (June 13) that the total prize money for this year's Wimbledon 2023 Championships will be increased by a record 11.2 percent compared to 2022. The prize money will hit a new record of 44.7 million Pounds ($56.52 million).
"The All England Club is pleased to announce the total prize money fund for The Championships 2023 will be a record £44,700,000," the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) said in a statement.
"The prize money on offer for tennis events this year (not including per diems) is an 11.2 percent increase on 2022 and a 17.1 percent increase on the pre-pandemic Championships in 2019," it further read.
The prize money for winners and runners-up of the men's and women's singles finals will also see rising to previous levels in 2019, where they received 2.35 million pounds and 1.175 million pounds, respectively. The prize money for winners fell to 1.7 million pounds in 2021 before it was increased to 2 million pounds last year.
There is also a 14.5% increase (for qualifying rounds in both men's and women's) from last year, while any player losing a first-round match is assured of at least 55,000 pounds which is an increase of 10 percent in 2022.
Ian Hewitt, Chairman of the All England Club, said, “We are delighted to offer record prize money to the players competing at The Championships this year, with double-digit increases across the majority of events. Our ambition with this distribution is to return the singles champions and runners-up prize money to the levels in 2019 prior to the pandemic whilst, alongside, providing deserved support for players in the early rounds of the event.”
Furthermore, the Russian and Belarusian players have been allowed to participate in the Wimbledon Championships which was announced before. Last year, no ranking points were offered after the players from the above-mentioned countries weren't allowed to participate. The Wimbledon Championships 2023 is set to begin on July 3rd and will run up to July 16th.
