Wimbledon 2023: Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden vs Guillermo Duran/Tomas Etcheverry highlights

Welcome to the live blog of Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden vs Guillermo Duran/Tomas Etcheverry men's doubles round 1 match in Wimbledon 2023.
Wimbledon 2023 has kickstarted on a bright note with the opening day producing some great results. The action now shifts to the doubles section with the opening round set to start tomorrow (July 7th). India’s lone participant in the main draw, Rohan Bopanna, will be partnering Australia’s Matthew Ebden in the 136th edition of tennis grand slam – Wimbledon. The sixth-seeded Indo-Australian pair will face Argentina duo Guillermo Duran/Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the opening round in men’s doubles at Wimbledon 2023.
After an opening round loss at the French Open, the experienced duo has only played two pre-cursor grass court tournament ahead of Wimbledon 2023. The Indo-Aus pair reached the semi-finals and quarter-final of ATP Stuttgart Open and Queens Club Championships respectively. Ranked World No. 13, Rohan Bopanna started his partnership with Ebden at the start of the year and since have had good results. Bopanna became the oldest player to win an ATP Masters title (replacing Daniel Nestor).
Ahead of the third grand slam, Bopanna played an exhibition match partnering compatriot Sriram Balaji. In the opening round, Bopanna/Ebden are set to take on Argentinian pair Duran/Etcheverry.
About the Opponents
The Argentian pair of Guillermo Duran and Tomas Martin Etcheverry will be pairing up for the first time at Wimbledon 2023. While they will be pairing up for the first time, both players played the men’s doubles at both Australian Open and French Open. Both were knocked out from the opening round in the previous two Slams.
Etcheverry though was in sensational form in singles at Roland Garros and reached the quarter-finals — en route defeating three seeded players in the opening four rounds. Ahead of Wimbledon 2023, Etcheverry partnered Francisco Cerundolo at the Eastbourne International but lost in the opening round once again.
Unlike Etcheverry, Duran is a full time doubles player with a current doubles ranking of 78. The 35-year-old lost in the opening rounds in the previous two tournaments (Lyon and French Open) and has not had good results in the past month. With the Argentinians combining for the first time, they should find it difficult to go past the experienced Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, who will be the firm favourites to advance.
