US Open 2023: Full list of Indian players who will participate at Flushing Meadows

Three Indians will feature in the qualifying rounds this week
Indian tennis fans will shift their focus to the fourth and final grand slam of the year – US Open 2023. Played on hard courts, it will be the 143rd edition of the championships consisting of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
From Mahesh Bhupathi to Leander Paes and Sania Mirza, Indians have triumphed at the US Open multiple times, with Rohan Bopanna finishing runner-up once. The tournament starts with the qualifying rounds on August 22nd, 2023 and officially on August 28th with the main rounds. The draw for main rounds is scheduled to be made on August 24th.
Here is a look at the Indian players participating at the US Open 2023:
Sumit Nagal – Men’s Singles Qualifying

The Jhajjar-born boy has some of his best memories at the US Open, as he became only the second Indian after Somdev Devvarman to make the second round of any Grand Slam in singles. Not only can he boast about this accomplishment, but the Indian lad drove everyone crazy when he took a set away from the legendary Roger Federer in the same competition in 2019.
Four years later, Sumit Nagal is set to play in the qualifying rounds of US Open 2023. The clay court expert hasn’t played a single match on the hard courts since February, when he lost to Dominik Palan of the Czech Republic at the Pune Challenger.
However, he has won two Challenger tournaments this year and also got inside the top 200 in the men’s singles. He needs to adapt quickly after playing the majority of his matches on clay in the past few months.
Ankita Raina – Women’s Singles Qualifying

India’s No. 1 women’s singles player Ankita Raina, has been on the ATP tour for some time now and she has been consistently playing qualifying rounds of the Grand Slams. US Open is the slam where she has just played two times and this will be her third appearance in qualifying. The Indian ace has been enjoying a good season, toppling a few top-ranked players, with the most recent one being Barbora Strycova (a former top 30 player in singles and Wimbledon 2023 champion).

Karman Kaur Thandi – Women’s Singles Qualifying

Making her debut at the US Open, the tall Punjabi girl is looking strong to give others a run for their money. Karman was sidelined from tennis due to a injury which stifled her momentum when she was looking strong to make a stride on the circuit. But, Thandi came back with a bang after she made a couple of finals and lifted her second 60k title in the US. Karman is yet to win a match at the grand slam level, but is surely capable of doing wonders if she remains fit.
Rohan Bopanna – Men’s Doubles

The Indo-Australian experienced pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden are seeded fifth at this edition of the US Open. The pair did not have good pre-US Open warm-up tournaments, as they lost in the early rounds of the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters respectively. However, with experience by their side the pair would be eyeing for a solid run at Flushing Meadows next week.
Yuki Bhambri – Men’s Doubles

The Australian Open junior champion surely knows how to make a roll on the hard courts. Making his debut through doubles at the US Open, Yuki is partnering with Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner, who is an experienced doubles player. Due to frequent injuries, Yuki Bhambri had to give up his singles career and is now solely playing as a full-time doubles player. In just a short period of time, he has established himself as one of the elite players in India’s doubles contingent.
Taking a break from his regular partner Saketh Myneni, who is in the reserve list, Yuki must be hoping for a good week at the US Open.
Other Indians in the fray are Saketh Myneni, who is in the first alternate position and will be pairing alongside Russia’s Aslan Karatsev. On the other hand, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Joh-Patrick Smith are in the sixth spot of the alternates.
