The winner progresses to Group I qualifying stage.
The City of Nawabs, Lucknow, is playing host to the Davis Cup World Group II tie as India takes on Morocco in their World Group II fixture. The All India Tennis Association (AITA) announced the players making up the Indian contingent on Monday for the tie, which takes place from 16th -17th September.
Twenty-four national teams will take the stage in World Group II matches, with the victors proceeding to the World Group I play-offs. The teams falling at this hurdle will be relegated to the World Group II play-offs. The Indian team finds itself in Group II after their loss to Denmark 3-2 in their World Group I play-off tie in February. This is the first time India has been in World Group II since the introduction of the new format in 2019.
The upcoming Davis Cup tie will be Rohan Bopanna’s last appearance for the Indian team. The 43-year-old veteran advanced to the mixed doubles final at this year’s Australian in the company of Sania Mirza and was the oldest man to appear in a Grand Slam final when he made it to the US Open doubles final.
Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden lost in straight sets to the British-American duo of Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram in the summit clash at Flushing Meadows.
