National tennis championship 2023: Aakruti Narayan-Sohini Mohanty win U-16 girls doubles title

The duo defeated Bendram and Mahewari in straight sets.
In the finals of the 28th National Tennis Championship 2023, Maharashtra's Aakruti Narayan and Odisha's Sohini Mohanty showcased remarkable coordination to secure the girls' doubles U-16 title at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi.
Aakruti and Sohini began on a positive note, quickly amassing points and eventually triumphing over Nainika Bendram and Ishi Mahewari with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in straight sets, culminating in the acquisition of the coveted tournament trophy.
In the boys doubles U-16 final in the National tennis championship 2023, the partnership of Vraj Gohil from Gujarat and Maharashtra's Samarth Sahita successfully navigated their match against the duo of Kabir Chothani from Gujarat and Arnav Yadav from Uttarakhand. They secured the title with a convincing 7-5, 6-2 victory in straight sets.
The National Tennis Championship 2023, organized by DCM Shriram Ltd. under the All India Tennis Association and Delhi Lawn Tennis Association, has enjoyed participation from illustrious Indian tennis players like Rohan Bopanna, Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, Sania Mirza, and Rutuja Bhosale in previous editions. It remains India's premier domestic tennis event.
In the boys doubles U-14 category, Hruthik Katakam from Telangana and Tavish Pahawa from Haryana displayed their prowess by defeating Shaurya Bhardwaj and Ranvir Singh with a score of 6-4, 7-5, thus clinching the Fenesta Nationals title. West Bengal's Aleena Farid and Odisha's Aradhyaa Verma combined forces to secure the girls' doubles U-14 trophy with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory against Aahan and Akansha Ghosh.
The top-seeded Hruthik continued his winning streak in the boys singles U-14 category, prevailing over Anurag Kallambella with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win in straight sets, earning him a spot in the final. The girls' singles U-14 category witnessed an enthralling semifinal match, with Haryana's Anandita Upadhyay defeating Aleena Farid 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 in a closely contested battle.
On the other side of the court, Tamil Nadu's Thirumurugan V advanced closer to the title in the boys singles U-16 category by defeating Prabir Chavda with a score of 6-4, 6-4. In the girls' singles U-16 category, Delhi's Aishi Bisht secured a significant victory with a 6-1, 6-4 result against Laxmi Dandu from Telangana, securing her place in the finals.
It's worth noting that the tournament also provides a kit allowance for all junior categories, enhancing the overall support for young talents in the sport.
