Italy will be making a first final appearance after 25 years.

Australia and Italy, both eager to claim the title, will face off in the Davis Cup 2023 final at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain this Sunday.

With 28 titles to its name, Australia stands as the second most successful nation in the Davis Cup history, trailing only behind the USA’s 32 titles. Their last victory, however, dates back to 2003.

On Friday in Malaga, Australia secured their place in the Davis Cup 2023 final with a decisive 2-0 victory over Finland.

Alex de Minaur, ranked 12th in the ATP, and Alexei Popyrin, world No. 40, clinched their matches early, sealing the tie. Lleyton Hewitt, a member of Australia’s last Davis Cup-winning team 20 years ago, is in the team as a non-playing captain. Matthew Ebden, currently paired with Rohan Bopanna on the ATP circuit and in top form, spearheads the Australian doubles challenge.

Australia’s opponent in Sunday’s final is Italy, led by world No. 4 Jannik Sinner, who triumphed over Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in Saturday’s semi-final.

Italy heads into the final following an impressive 2-1 victory over a formidable Serbian side. In the first match of the tie, Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic overcame Lorenzo Musetti, before Jannik Sinner pulled off a stunning upset against Novak Djokovic.

In the decisive doubles match, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego teamed up to defeat Novak Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets, propelling the 1976 champions into the Davis Cup final for the first time since 1998.
