Countries with longest gap between two Davis Cup titles
Great Britain – 21 years
Great Britain has achieved remarkable success in the Davis Cup, winning a total of 10 titles. Their victorious journey began in 1903 when they clinched their first championship. A significant milestone was reached in 1912, as they triumphed over Australia, securing their fifth title. However, a prolonged drought ensued, lasting until 1933 before they could once again celebrate their next triumph in the tournament.
In the 28th edition of the Davis Cup (1933), the team of Great Britain emerged victorious in the final round, putting an end to France’s impressive six-year reign as champions. This notable achievement marked Great Britain’s sixth title in the tournament.
Czech Republic – 32 years
After clinching the Davis Cup championship in 1980, the Czech Republic’s team endured a lengthy 32-year period before claiming the trophy once again in 2012 by defeating Spain. Moreover, the nation has won a total of three title with the latest in 2013.
Italy – 47 years
The recent victory has paved the way for the Italian team to join the list of champions, after a hiatus of 47 years. Their previous triumph was in 1976 when they defeated Chile. Despite making it to the final on four occasions post their previous win, they were unable to claim victory until this year. They also reached the final for the first time this century.
Moreover, the team has finished runners-up in 1960, 1961, 1977 and 1979.
France – 59 years
France has held the title 10 times in the history of the championship. Their first triumph was in 1927 followed by 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931 and 1932. Then they had to wait for 59 years to again lift the title in 1991 by defeating the United States of America in the final round. They have also won the title in 1996, 2001 and 2017 with nine more final appearances where they ended the campaign as runners-up.
Great Britain – 79
Great Britain holds the record of longest gap between two titles at the Davis Cup. They won their last title in 2015 for which they had to wait for 79 years. They have won a total of 10 titles, but after securing the ninth title in 1936 by triumphing over Australia in the final round, they endured an extensive period of anticipation. The other title triumph has come in – 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1912, 1933, 1934 and 1935.
