Medvedev holds strong head-to-head advantage over Zverev

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev will clash in the Australian Open 2024 semi-final on Friday after both survived tough quarter-final matches. Medvedev overcame Hubert Hurkacz in five sets, while Zverev defeated Carlos Alcaraz in four.

Medvedev, the third seed, showed his resilience and versatility against Hurkacz, who challenged him with his powerful serve and net play. The Russian saved 10 break points and sealed the win with a drop shot. He has reached his third Australian Open semi-final in four years, and has a strong record in Grand Slam hard-court matches, especially if he wins the first set.

Zverev, the sixth seed, is still chasing his first Grand Slam title, but he impressed with his serving accuracy and composure against Alcaraz, the Wimbledon champion. The German recovered from a third-set hiccup and a foot injury to reach his seventh major semi-final. However, he has only won one of his previous six semi-finals at this level, and has lost his last five.
