Novak Djokovic vs Jannik Sinner preview
The defending champion Djokovic struggled in his first two matches, but gradually improved his performance. He had to fight hard to beat Prizmic and Popyrin in four sets each, but then he easily defeated Etcheverry and Mannarino in straight sets. He reached the semi-finals in Melbourne after a tough four-set victory over Fritz.
Sinner, on the other hand, had a smooth run to the semi-finals, crushing his opponents without losing a set or playing a tie-break. He beat van de Zandschulp, de Jong, Baez, and Khachanov with ease, before stunning the fifth seed Rublev with his powerful serve. He extended his impressive winning streak to 18 out of 19 matches. Prediction
Djokovic and Sinner are both playing at an exceptional level and showcasing their best tennis ever. The 36-year-old Serb is defying age and pursuing history, as he targets his 11th Australian Open title and 25th major trophy, which would break Margaret Court’s record.
He has a flawless record of 10-0 in Melbourne semi-finals. Sinner, on the other hand, is a rising star who has made his second Grand Slam semi-final, after falling to Djokovic at Wimbledon last year.
Sinner has been dominant this tournament, but he could face a tough test from Djokovic, who has improved as the tournament advanced. Both players have a few flaws, as evidenced by their tight head-to-head record of 4-2 in favor of Djokovic. But Jannik Sinner has had an upper hand in the last few matches and would be buoyed by his win at the Davis Open last year which could make this match close. But in this neck-and-neck encounter, one should consider Djokovic’s big match pedigree and his record at the first Grand Slam of the season. Djokovic has a slight advantage going into this clash and should clinch a narrow victory, given his greater consistency and experience in the latter stages of the Slams.
Result: Djokovic to win in five sets.
