Alexander Zverev will play his first-ever Wimbledon semi-final against local hope Arthur Fery

Alexander Zverev is enjoying the finest run of his career, extending his rich vein of form to grass, a surface that had long eluded him. After his historic triumph at Roland Garros, the German is now scaling new heights at Wimbledon.

Zverev had previously never progressed past the fourth round at the All England Club, and was knocked out in the opening round itself last year, at the hands of Arthur Rinderknech.

However, he has relied on his biggest strengths this fortnight, using his powerful serve and lethal groundstrokes to a devastating effect.

In his most recent quarter-final clash, Zverev finally ended his seven-match losing streak against Taylor Fritz, winning comfortably in straight sets.

He has been the toughest to break on serve at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, and he will have to continue to maintain this level if he wishes to clinch back-to-back Grand Slam titles.

His focus will currently be on getting to the finals, and in order to do so, he will have to overcome local hope Arthur Fery, who has been the story of the tournament.

Since Andy Murray in 2016, no British man has advanced this far in a Grand Slam, and his victories over Flavio Cobolli and Grigor Dimitrov have proved that he is someone to watch out for.

Should Zverev emerge victorious, he will not only play his maiden Wimbledon final but also surpass Carlos Alcaraz to reclaim the World No. 2 ranking.

Zverev is currently at 7980 points, which is 180 points lesser than Alcaraz’s 8160. A semi-final win over Fery will see him climb to 8480 points, thereby helping him reach the second position.

The 29-year-old last held the No. 2 ranking in May 2025 but is yet to ever reach the summit.

Given Alcaraz’s long absence due to the wrist injury he had suffered earlier this season in Barcelona, Zverev has a chance to continue climbing the rankings list, if he can end the grass season on a high, and taste success during the North American swing.

How can Alexander Zverev replace Carlos Alcaraz as the new ATP World No. 2 at Wimbledon 2026?

To reclaim the second position in ATP rankings, Zverev must defeat Arthur Fery and reach the final at Wimbledon 2026. The German is yet to reach the title match at the Grass Court Major and is chasing history.

When did Alexander Zverev last hold the World No. 2 position in ATP rankings?

The 29-year-old last held the position in May 2025.

Has Alexander Zverev won the Wimbledon title previously?

No, reaching the semi-final round in the 2026 edition is Zverev’s best performance at Wimbledon.

Who will Alexander Zverev face in the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2026?

The German will be up against home favourite and Brit Arthur Fery, who will also be playing his maiden semi-final match at SW19.
