Alexander Zverev vs Arthur Fils prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Italian Open 2025

Zverev and Fils will clash in a rematch of Miami Open last 16 where the Frenchman stunned Zverev.
Alexander Zverev is living up to his No #2 seeding in Rome after notching easy wins in the opening stages of the Italian Open 2025. The German stayed on course for a third title in Rome by defeating Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Vilius Gaubas—both unseeded players in straight sets.
The World No #2 completed the formalities against Gaubas, the Lithuanian qualifier, 6-4, 6-0. The 20-year-old Gaubas came through qualifying and beat the 27th seed Denis Shapovalov to move into the third round. Gaubas broke the German’s serve twice besides saving six breakpoints but could not deny Zverev victory on Campo Centrale.
Over at Grand Stand Arena, Arthur Fills was busy taking down Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Frenchman extended his lead over Tsitsipas to 4-0 following the 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win in one hour and 54 minutes. Fils is peaking just before the French Open, which begins later this month.
Fils, the World No #14, converted all three breakpoints on offer and struck 26 winners en route to his victory over Tsitsipas. The 20-year-old from Bondoufle progressed to the fourth round in Rome for the first time, where he will cross paths with Zverev in a rematch of their round of 16 meeting in Miami.

Preview
Zverev will need to be crowned victor in Rome if he is to remain the ATP No #2. Carlos Alcaraz is breathing down the German’s neck in a tussle for the No #2 ranking ahead of Roland Garros. The second seed in Paris will avoid Jannik Sinner until the title round.
Fils scored a comeback win against Tsitsipas, which gives him a 7-2 record against the ATP Top 20 since the 2024 season got underway. An opportunity to improve on that record awaits Fils when he clashes with Zverev in a fifth tour-level meeting later on Tuesday.
Fils, who is at a career-high No #14, will have a foot in the door of the ATP Top 10 and bag 200 valuable points should he reach the quarter-finals. The fans at Roland Garros will have high expectations of the Frenchman. The wait for a French men’s singles winner goes back 42 years when Yannick Noah won the title in 1983.

Match Prediction
Fils narrowed down the lead Zverev enjoyed in the head-to-head to 3-2 after their Miami Open showdown. The German is yet to be troubled in Rome and has not dropped a set, as he lost just seven games in his first two matches.
Fils continued his dominance over Tsitsipas, carving out a gritty win to reinforce his clay-court credentials. Zverev’s status as defending champion and clay court experience give him the edge.
Since the beginning of 2024, the pair have split the spoils, with two wins each. All four of their matches since the beginning of last season have gone the distance.
Zverev took the first win in Halle, with Fils defeating the German in the Hamburg Open finals. Zverev returned the favour in front of Fils’ home crowd in the round of 16 in the Paris Masters. The result of their most recent match in Miami favoured Fils.
Their upcoming fourth-round clash in Rome will be a new chapter in their rivalry. A win will help the victor approach Roland Garros with greater optimism. Zverev was a finalist in Paris last year, while Fils will be looking to make an impression at his home event.
Result: Zverev to win in three sets.
